Alumni Council Reports

The Alumni Council and the Line of Communication with Leadership at the College

Our class Alumni Council representative (ACR) shares with the Alumni Liaison Committee (ALC) and Alumni Council leadership any communication (usually unedited) received from a classmate.  The ALC responds to the class ACR and then the ACR forwards the response to the person requesting communication. When the original communication requests a response, or when it is otherwise appropriate, the ACR forwards the response to the classmate requesting communication.

The ALC tallies and records virtually all comments from alums and shares them with the Trustees quarterly. Sometimes the information is shared in the form of a percentage, for example, 25% of alumni communications disfavor XYZ policy. Sometimes alumni comments are broken down by age group. The Trustees and the ALC interact about the shared comments and at times the Trustees ask the ALC to reply to alumni using a general news announcement, e.g., through email.  Use the button, Learn More About the Alumni Council, below to learn more about the alumni council and read recent reports.

Directing an inquiry to our ALR is the best way to ensure your communication will be read (and answered, if appropriate) and presented in some fashion to the Trustees. The ALC gathers information from other sources including clubs, class organizations, and the like, but the Alumni Council route is the primary line of communication. You of course can write or communicate with any member of the Dartmouth community you wish whenever you wish about anything you wish.  Going through our ACR is a tried-and-true route to be heard.

Finally, as far as raising issues directly with the Alumni Council, our ACR can do that in the Open Forum session at the conclusion of its meetings. Sometimes that can be difficult for the ACR since over 100 people are in the room and detailed presentations there might lack effectiveness. Our ACR is happy to do that if that is what it takes.  Raising whatever issue concerns you or conveying any question or comments you have can always be done directly through our ACR at any time.
